Ape in the hallway

Here’s how the hallway’s coming on: thanks again to Simon Bensley for the suggestion. Aylesbury clock tower’s not complete and I haven’t yet drawn in the biplane which all giant apes must swipe at, but I still had an urge to show it as I like the way the ape came out.

To give you some sense of scale there’s a long view down the hallway with the ape at the end.

As you can see there’s a lot of wall still left so any other ideas for what can appear there, don’t hesitate to tell me.

Thanks!

Better start Christmas shopping now I suppose.

Hallway update

Thanks for all the suggestions – apes and monkeys feaatured very heavily so next one will be a big King Kong climbing up Aylesbury clock tower (Aylesbury being where I’m from). Simon Bensley, also from Aylesbury, was saying he might get a tattoo of the same thing.

Anyway, should be able to get some lines on the wall over weekend – while you’re waiting here’s a photo of the tower in question. It’s the nearest thing we have to a landmark in mid-Bucks.

Help me design my hallway!

I’ve decided to draw all over my house. I own it, I don’t rent it, and it took me a while to fully appreciate that I can do that kind of thing now there’s no landlord to stop me. The hallway, and all the way up the stairs, is going to be covered with a sprawling black and white mural of all sorts of unconnected images.

In the last couple of weeks I’ve done a moonbase (not as good as one of Tom Gauld’s, who is the master of drawing cartoon moonbases, but I’m still happy enough with it), a hermit crab holding a lollipop, and a dice where all the sides feature a six – the last one is a symbol of good fortune which I tend to draw a lot when doodling.

I’m very interested to see if anyone has any suggestions for what I should draw next. Please suggest anything you like to luckyheathercomic@googlemail.com . The only rules are; no rabbits, pigs or lies, cause this is for relaxation so I don’t want to do professional stuff there. And it mustn’t be unsuitable for kids cause we’ve got two in this house.

I’ll keep posting new hallway pics as I do them so you can keep up you up to date with what ideas I’m using.

Click to enlarge the pictures to get a better look at my hallway house style; and the longer view should give you a sense of scale. Looking forward to your ideas!

More Belgian Bunnies

About a week later than I meant to put it up because it got lost in the dark recesses of my briefcase… here is some bunny suicide fan art done by a young artist called Laurien, who I signed a book for at the Antwerp fair. Thanks L. Nice deaths! Though the apparently starved rabbit on top of the ‘E’ is a bit disturbing.

Translations

Just to be a bit clearer…. when I say we want to get Portugese translations of the books, I mean we’re trying to get a publisher to put them out as actual books on old-fashioned paper, rather than releasing all the cartoons straight on to the net. I know it’s kind of old school but that’s how we like to do it. But thanks for all the offers though, that’s very kind.

Invention

Thanks also to everyone who’s offered to translate English to Portugese for me. I had to use Babelfish as I didn’t personally know any Portugese speakers to ask… but I do now! Which is lovely. Sorry for subjecting you to hideous computer-mangled translations.

Brazil

Thanks for all your replies! I know now why so many people are coming and looking from Brazil. It’s mostly because of Zanfa. Thanks!

I will try to think up a special Brazilian pig or bunny just for all of you, and post it up in the next day or so. I’ve also been on to my publishers to see if we can get Portugese translations of the books made available! Not that they take long to translate. I’m told it takes about an hour.

Anyway – thanks again for all the messages.
